Our commitment
Chelsea Tennis Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people in our care. The welfare of the child is always our paramount concern. We expect everyone who works or volunteers with us to share this commitment.
Scope
This policy applies to all staff, coaches, volunteers and anyone acting on behalf of Chelsea Tennis Club, across all our sessions, lessons, camps and venues.
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Alex Tromp, contactable at info@chelseatennisclub.com. The DSL holds up-to-date safeguarding lead training and is responsible for handling safeguarding concerns and liaising with external agencies.
Our principles
- The welfare of the child comes first.
- All children, whatever their age, background or ability, have the right to protection from harm.
- All concerns and allegations will be taken seriously and responded to promptly.
Safer recruitment and training
- All coaches and staff working with children undergo an enhanced DBS check (with barred-list check) before working unsupervised with children.
- All staff complete safeguarding and first-aid training, kept up to date.
- References and qualifications are verified as part of recruitment.
Code of conduct
Our coaches will: treat all children with respect; maintain appropriate boundaries; avoid being alone with a child wherever possible and remain observable; never use physical punishment, intimidating or demeaning behaviour; and put the child's safety and enjoyment first at all times.
Photography and social media
We will seek parental consent before taking or using any image that identifies a child.
Recognising and reporting concerns
Anyone with a concern about a child's welfare — or about the behaviour of an adult towards a child — must report it to the DSL without delay. The DSL will record the concern and, where appropriate, refer it to the relevant authorities, including the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) in the case of an allegation against a member of staff. In an emergency where a child is at immediate risk, call 999.
